Netflix has released a trailer for the upcoming special Chadwick Boseman: Portrait of an Artist, which turns the spotlight on the late actor.
The special features interviews with actors and directors who worked with Boseman during the course of his career, including Da 5 Bloods director Spike Lee and 21 director Brian Helgeland along with his Black Panther co-star Danai Gurira and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom co-star Viola Davis. The trailer also features a voiceover from Boseman, who discusses his approach to acting. “People call me an actor. I wouldn’t necessarily call myself an actor. I call myself an artist.”
Boseman passed away in 2020 due to complications from colon cancer. His role in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom has earned multiple posthumous awards as well as a nomination for Best Actor for the 93rd annual Academy Awards. He also completed voice work for Marvel Studios’ What If…? which will feature an episode reimagining Black Panther as Star-Lord.
Chadwick Boseman: Portrait of an Artist arrives April 17 on Netflix.
